BY FEMALES, FOR FEMALES

Empower her game.

At Building Better Athletes we are passionate about giving young female athletes the best chance of excelling in sport and hockey.

We believe it is extremely important that girls have visible female role models in day to day life and why we are proud to have an all-female coaching staff for all our sessions.

Why We Focus on Girls’ Sport

  • Inspire.

Research has shown that female players who are coached by women perceive less discrimination and are more inclined to enter coaching than those women coached by men— Everhart & Chelladurai (1998).

  • Understand.

Females are well placed to understand the psychological and social pressures female athletes may experience— Women in Sport UK

  • Cooperate.

Fasting and Pfister’s (2000) research suggests that female players seem to prefer female coaches to male coaches. This is primarily because of their ‘feminine’ style of coaching which is characterised by empathy, communicative competence and the willingness to cooperate— Fasting and Pfister’s (2000)

  • Participate.

Female coaches can make a big difference in increasing female participation, as well as helping some women to feel more comfortable in a sporting environment, and beyond. 94% of female executives participated in regular competitive sports— EY .
